Association of Graduate Anthropology Students

AGAS is an academically-related student group that represents the graduate student body of our department. We sponsor a weekly speaker series, organize an annual student conference, and carry out fundraisers to cover the costs of events. AGAS also elects representatives to the Department Council and the Graduate Students' Association of the University of Alberta. We address external affairs that affect graduate students in our department and liase with other graduate student groups in the Faculty of Arts.

COMPASS:

The Student Anthropology Journal of Alberta

Compass is published annually as collaboration between the Association of Graduate Anthropology Students (AGAS) and the Department of Anthropology at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Formerly Diversipede, our student-run publication allows undergraduate and graduate students to share their work and ideas, creating a platform for discussion and knowledge. Compass was created in 2017 and offers an open-access journal that aims to improve the quality and reach of anthropological publishing. The Richard Frucht Memorial Lecture Series has partnered with Compass to afford exceptional student presentations (poster and podium) a venue to be published after the conference. Student prize winners will have the opportunity to publish their research under the distinction of Richard Frucht Memorial Lecture Series prize winner.

Submissions consist of original ongoing research, reviews of current anthropological issues, and anything related to an anthropological interest from any of the sub-fields. We welcome multi-media projects that may include audiovisual components, GIS or other 3D modelling, in addition to more traditional print materials. For more information, including ongoing deadlines, please check out our website: https://journals.library.ualberta.ca/compass
